RADVEL_W (S0): Wilson General Catalog of Stellar Radial Velocities
FILE: radvel_w.s0 (15106 stars)
CONTENTS: Wilson General Catalog of Stellar Radial Velocities
DATASET: This file comes in HyperSky dataset S-14, version 19930514. Availability on HyperSky CD-ROM: Vol. 1 (1993)
DESCRIPTION: This datafile contains the WILSON GENERAL CATALOG OF STELLAR RADIAL VELOCITIES, originally published in 1953 by the Carnegie Institution of Washington (Publication 601). The HyperSky file is based on the revised 1979 machine-readable version of the catalog, provided on the NASA/GSFC Astronomical Data Center (ADC) cd-rom "Selected Astronomical Catalogs", Volume 1.
The Wilson catalog is an all-sky having no uniform magnitude cutoff; the faintest star in the catalog is listed as magnitude 15.4.
DATA: The HyperSky datafile contains the following data from the catalog:
POSITION: Right Ascension and Declination are based on the 1950 catalog values, precessed to equinox 2000. The catalog RA was given to an accuracy of 0.1 minute of time, and the Declination was given to an accuracy of 1 arc minute.
TYPE: A two-letter abbreviated form of the catalog spectral type. If the full catalog spectral type is more than these two letters, it will be given in the following comments (see below).
MAG: the catalog magnitude. For most stars this magnitude is visual. However, some magnitudes are photographic, and are noted in the comments following (see below).
IDENTIFICATION: The Wilson catalog number of the star.
COMMENTS: The comment lines contain the following information, provided if available for each star:
* Henry Draper catalog (HD) number
* a line starting with "mag" and followed by either or both of `V' (for variable magnitude) or `P' (for photographic magnitude)
* The complete Wilson catalog spectral type, if it contains more information than the spectral type on the primary identification line.
* The radial velocity, in units of km/sec. Positive values indicate recession; negative values indicate approach.
