ISOPAIRS (G0): Catalog of Isolated Pairs of Galaxies (Dec > -3) (19950204)
FILE: isopairs.g0 (603 galaxy pairs, 1206 galaxies)

CONTENTS: Catalogue of Isolated Pairs of Galaxies in the Northern Hemisphere I.D Karachentsev et al, 1972

DATASET: This file comes in HyperSky dataset G-20, version 19950204 Availability on HyperSky CD-ROM: Vol. 2 (1995)

DESCRIPTION: This file contains 603 isolated pairs of galaxies (1206 galaxies total), with apparent component magnitudes < 15.7 and declinations > -3 degrees, from the electronic version of the original catalog published by I.D. Karachentsev in the "Publications of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of USSR" no 7, 1972.

The HyperSky file is based on a version of the catalog available through the U.S. National Space Sciences Data Center (NSSDC) as Astronomical Data Center (ADC) catalog #7077. It is also available from the Stellar Data Center (CDS), Strasbourg, France, as catalog VII/77.

DATA: The HyperSky datafile contains the following data from the catalog:

POSITION: Right Ascension and Declination are based on the catalog 1950 coordinates, precessed to equinox 2000. Catalog 1950 positions were provided to an accuracy of 0.1 second in RA, and 1 arc minute in Declination.

MAG: The apparent magnitude of the galaxy, as provided in the catalog. Although the available documentation states that catalog galaxies have magnitudes < 15.7, magnitudes were not provided for all catalog galaxies. For such galaxies, dashes appear in place of a magnitude.

IDENTIFICATION: The catalog pair number of the galaxy, followed by the letter 'A' or 'B' identiying the pair component. No other galaxy identifications were provided in the catalog.

COMMENTS: The comment lines following the identification contain the following information, if available, for each galaxy:

* A line giving the galaxy's major and minor axis dimensions. The minor axis value is converted from the raw catalog data, which provides the major axis and minor/major axis ratio.

* A line giving the galaxy's heliocentric radial velocity, in km/sec.

* A line giving the galaxy's Hubble (morphological) type. Types starting with 'S' indicate spiral galaxies; types starting with 'E' indicate elliptical galaxies.

* A line describing the galaxy's spectral type. If present, this comment will be one of the following:

"absorption-line system"
"weak emission"
"medium strength emission"
"strong emission"

* A line giving the separation between the galaxy and its companion, in arc minutes.
