DESCRIPTION: This datafile contains those stars from the 4th edition of the Yale Bright Star Catalog which have what are known as Flamsteed numbers. Though these numbers are attributed to John Flamsteed (1646-1719), the numbers were actually added by astronomer Joseph Jerome de Lalande to a French edition of Flamsteed's catalog. The Flamsteed catalog does not cover the far southern sky; there are no Flamsteed catalog stars south of declination -50.

MAG: the visual magnitude
The faintest stars in the catalog are 8th magnitude.
SP: stellar spectral type
IDENTIFICATION: the Flamsteed number of the star. Occasionally more than one member of a multiple star will have the same Flamsteed number.
