DESCRIPTION: This datafile contains those stars from the 4th edition of the Yale Bright Star Catalog which have Greek letter designations. This system can be originally attributed to Johann Bayer (1572-1625) who used it in his URANOMETRIA star atlas, though it was later extended by others.
DATA:
MAG: the visual magnitude. This is primarily a catalog of bright naked-eye stars, though a few ofthe stars in the catalog are as faint as nearly 8th magnitude.
SP: stellar spectral type
IDENTIFICATION: the Greek letter designation of the star. Occasionally more than one multiple star member will have the same Greek designation.
