ARP (G0): Arp's Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies
FILES: arp.g0 (336 galaxies), arp.g0n (notefile)
CONTENTS: Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies, by Halton Arp, 1966
DATASET: This file is part of HyperSky dataset G-3 (G-3.1), version 19890328 Availability on HyperSky CD-ROM: Vol. 1 (1993)
DESCRIPTION: Data for arp.g0 has been taken from The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, Nov 1966, pp.1-20, which describes and contains Arp's atlas. Although there are 338 objects in the atlas, only 336 separate entries appear in this file since Arp 310-311 and Arp 33-326 are treated as single objects.
Additional identifications with other cataloged objects are from notes by Harold Corwin, Univ. of Texas Dept of Astronomy.
There are no Arp catalog galaxies south of declination -45 degrees.
DATA: The HyperSky datafile contains the following data from the catalog:
MAG: Magnitudes of identified NGC and IC galaxies are from NGC 2000.0 (1988). In cases of multiple objects the magnitude for the brightest object is used.
IDENTIFICATION: The sequence number in Arp's atlas is used.
COMMENTS: The comment line contains the following additional information, provided if available for each galaxy:
* NGC or IC number
* Messier number
NOTEFILE: The notefile contains the following information, provided if available for each object:
* Magnitudes of individual components if object is a multiple system.
* Additional cross-reference identifications in other catalogs.
* Arp's remarks about the object.
* Redshifts in km/sec.
